Italy
Italian Wines! Viticulture in Italy was introduced into Sicily and some parts of southern Italy by the Greeks, having well-stablished vineyards there in the century of 800 BC. By the century of 200 BC the Italian production began spreading and flourishing, to the extent that in 92 BD the Italian Emperor was forced to destroy several vineyards for freeing up land for food production.
Now Italy is the world largest producer of wine with a quarter of the global production and home to some of the oldest and most iconic wine-producing regions. Having more than one million vineyards under cultivation, vines are grown in every region of the country, from the North Alps to almost-within-sight of Africa in the South. Italy’s mountainous and hilly terrain provides amazing and varied grape growing conditions.
Italy is divided into twenty wine regions, which are the twenty administrative regions of the country. To understand those regions means to understand their wine, given that the regions have unique cuisine style and the wines in Italy are produced to pair with its region’s cuisine.
The main regions, from Northwest to Southeast are: Piemonte, Liguria, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Toscana, Marche, Umbria, Lazio, Sardinia, Abruzzo, Campania, Pugliaand Sicily. ZYN proudly offers you an amaZYN selection of Italian Wines of all those regions. What are you waiting to try them all?
