Togouchi 9 Year Old is a distinctive blended expression from the Sakurao Brewery and Distillery in Hiroshima. Like other spirits in the Togouchi range, this whisky is famous for its unique maturation in a former railway tunnel carved into the mountains of Akiota. The tunnel provides a constant, cool temperature and high humidity, which slows the aging process and allows the spirit to develop a mellow, refined character over its nine-year sleep. This blend consists of both malt and grain whiskies, creating a balanced and accessible profile that highlights the distillery's blending expertise.

Whisky Description

This whisky shows a bright, pale amber color. The nose is fresh and citrus-forward, offering scents of yellow plum, orange peel, and a distinct herbal note reminiscent of grassy meadows. On the palate, the influence of the grain whisky provides a smooth, light-bodied entry, followed by flavors of sweet honey, vanilla, and a subtle dry nuttiness. A delicate hint of peat smoke lingers in the background, adding a layer of complexity without being overpowering. The finish is clean and persistent, ending with a touch of spice and a crisp, mineral quality. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
