Castello di Montepo Collection
The land changes, but the mastery of the Biondi Santi legacy remains.
The Biondi Santi name is synonymous with the pinnacle of Italian winemaking. Following the sale of the family’s controlling interest in their namesake winery, Jacopo Biondi Santi and his son, Tancredi, have embarked on a definitive new mission at Castello di Montepò.
After years of patient negotiation, Jacopo secured this historic Tuscan estate for a singular reason: its extraordinary potential to produce world-class "Cru" wines. This represents a landmark moment for the family; as this is the inaugural release of the Cru wines, this is a "wine to watch" for collectors worldwide. These selections are finessed, structured, and incredibly age-worthy, making them a fine addition to any serious cellar. Furthermore, due to the exclusive nature of this debut, you likely won’t be able to find these Cru wines elsewhere.
The Foundation: Galestro & Elevation
Jacopo Biondi Santi's sharp eye for viticulture saw something special in the hills around Castello di Montepo. Surrounding the castle, the vineyards mirror the famous Galestro soils of Montalcino, providing the ideal foundation for growing the families trademarked BBS11 Sangiovese clone.
The estate’s vineyards are defined by:
Diverse Aspects & Elevations: The varying aspect and elevation of the slopes in the vineyards adjacent to the castlei show the unique character of each "Cru" vineyard.
The BBS11 Sangiovese Clone
The name stands for Brunello Biondi Santi 11, and it is the only vine clone in Italy legally named after a specific family. Although Jacopo sold his interest in the historic Montalcino estate, he retained the right to use the BBS11 clone at his own property, Castello di Montepò.
