Terroir & Winemaking Philosophy

Situated on deep gravel and clay terraces opposite Château Beychevelle, Branaire-Ducru’s 60 hectares of vineyards benefit from close proximity to the Gironde estuary. The estate operates under a strict winemaking philosophy centered on three core principles:fruit, freshness, and finesse.

• Gravity-Fed Precision: The property features a modern, gravity-operated winery with 28 temperature-controlled stainless steel vats sized to match specific vineyard parcels. This minimizes mechanical stress on the grapes, preserving pure aromatics and fine tannic structure.

• Aromatic Profile: A typical assemblage features Cabernet Sauvignon complemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. Expect vibrant blackcurrant, red cherry, floral violet, graphite, and cocoa notes supported by silky, polished tannins.

• Balance & Approachability: While built with the concentration required for decades of cellar aging, Branaire-Ducru is celebrated for offering greater initial softness and accessibility in its youth than many of its Saint-Julien neighbors.

Bottlings Featured in Our Collection

• Château Branaire-Ducru (Grand Vin): The flagship release. Aged in 60% to 65% new French oak barrels for 16 to 20 months, this wine reaches peak harmony after 8 to 25 years of bottle age.

• Duluc de Branaire-Ducru: The official second wine of the estate, introduced in the 1990s. Made primarily from younger vines with the same winemaking care as the Grand Vin, Duluc offers a lighter, fruit-forward profile ready to drink upon release or within 3 to 10 years.
