Château Brane-Cantenac Collection
Château Brane-Cantenac is a Second Growth (Deuxième Grand Cru Classé) estate situated in the heart of the Margaux appellation on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Famous for its deep, gravelly soils and high proportion of old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon, Brane-Cantenac is widely praised for producing quintessential Margaux—delivering an ethereal blend of violet aromatics, cedar, floral freshness, and silky, multi-layered tannins.
Terroir & Winemaking Style
Under the long-standing leadership of the Lurton family, the estate’s 75 hectares are centered on the coveted Terrasse n°4—a high-elevation gravel plateau that offers exceptional natural drainage and mineral depth.
-
Cabernet-Driven Focus: Unlike many neighboring Margaux properties that rely heavily on Merlot, Brane-Cantenac blends routinely feature 70% to 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, giving the wine greater vertical structure, ageability, and precision.
-
Aromatic Profile: Renowned for one of the most distinctive noses in the Médoc, featuring crushed cassis, graphite, dried mint, tobacco, and white flowers.
-
Refined Extraction: Vinification takes place in a combination of oak and concrete vats using gentle extraction methods, yielding supple, fine-grained tannins that make the wine approachable in its youth while maintaining a 20–30+ year cellaring trajectory.
Labels Featured in Our Collection
-
Château Brane-Cantenac (Grand Vin): The estate’s flagship Second Growth release. Aged in approximately 60% to 70% new French oak, this bottle exhibits supreme balance, subtle power, and complex tertiary notes as it matures.
-
Baron de Brane: The official second wine of the estate, named in honor of 19th-century owner Baron Hector de Brane. Sourced from slightly younger vines on clay-gravel soils, it offers an accessible, fruit-forward expression of Margaux with plush dark berries, cocoa, and immediate charm.
