Terroir & Winemaking Philosophy

Holding nearly 6 hectares within the 50-hectare Clos de Vougeot wall, Château de la Tour’s plots span prime upper, mid, and lower slopes, allowing for rare blending depth within the Grand Cru:

• Prime Mid-Slope Holdings: A significant portion of their vines sit in the gravelly, well-draining upper and mid-slope sections near the château itself, yielding grapes with superior concentration and structure compared to lower-slope plots.

• Whole-Cluster Fermentation: Under winemaker François Labet, the estate utilizes a high percentage of whole-cluster (whole-bunch) fermentation. This technique imparts vivid spice, structural tannic frame, floral aromatics, and long-term aging capacity.

• Organic Farming: The vineyard has been farmed organically since 1992, emphasizing natural soil health, low yields, and minimal cellar intervention to preserve pure Pinot Noir character.

• Flavor Profile: Dense and muscular in its youth, typical releases reveal dark cherry, black plum, forest floor, game, and crushed stone notes, developing complex leather and truffle nuance with age.

• Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes: An extraordinary micro-production bottling crafted exclusively from old vines planted in 1910 and 1934. Aged in 100% new oak, it delivers immense concentration, structural depth, and multi-decade longevity.
