Chateau La Fleur Petrus
The Silky Jewel of the Pomerol Plateau | Gravel & Blue Clay Micro-Terroir | Masterpiece of Jean-Pierre Moueix Precision
Situated on the prized high plateau of Pomerol on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, Château La Fleur-Pétrus gets its evocative name from its immediate neighboring icons, Château Lafleur and Pétrus. Originally acquired by Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1950 as his very first estate purchase, this historic property represents the pinnacle of Right Bank elegance, complexity, and velvet-like refinement. Managed today under the meticulous supervision of Christian Moueix and Edouard Moueix, the estate spans nearly 19 hectares across the finest terrace of the Pomerol plateau.
The winemaking philosophy at Château La Fleur-Pétrus focuses on crafting wines of extraordinary aromatic finesse, silky tannin structure, and harmonious balance. By leveraging gentle extraction techniques and parcel-by-parcel vinification, the Moueix team captures the voluptuous fruit character of Merlot alongside the floral fragrance and subtle spice of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
Terroir & Viticulture
-
Soil & Geography: Located between 33 and 38 meters above sea level on the Pomerol plateau. The estate's unique terroir combines deep, heat-retaining gravelly soils that yield immense elegance and freshness, with sublayers of dense clay and iron-rich crasse de fer that lend the wine its signature mid-palate density and structural power.
-
Grape Varieties & Farming:
-
Merlot (~91–93%): Forms the dominant core of the vineyard, supplying rich black cherry, plum, crushed violet, and cashmere-smooth texture.
-
Cabernet Franc (~6%): Contributes aromatic lift, structured tannins, freshness, and notes of graphite, licorice, and red fruits.
-
Petit Verdot (~1–3%): Adds subtle dark cocoa depth, peppery spice, and vibrant color intensity to the blend.
-
-
Cellar Precision: Grapes are hand-harvested and subjected to rigorous optical and manual double sorting. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless-steel vats with gentle macerations. Maturation spans 16 to 18 months in fine French oak barrels (33% to 50% new oak), ensuring subtle toast integration without masking the terroir's pure fruit.
