Product description
Introduction
Château Margaux 2012 is a red wine from France, produced in the Bordeaux region and the Margaux appellation. Château Margaux is one of the most famous wines in the world and is classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé (First Growth) in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The winery's philosophy is centred on producing wines that possess a rare combination of finesse, elegance, complexity, and intensity. The 2012 vintage was a top-class effort from the late Paul Pontallier and his team.
Wine Description
The wine has a dense ruby-purple colour. The aromatic profile is nuanced and refined, with wonderful aromas of flowers such as roses and violets. It possesses hints of spring flowers intermixed with blueberries, blackberries, and cassis fruit. Further notes include pencil lead, blond tobacco, cedar, and star anise.
The varietal composition is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. This was made from only 34% of the overall harvest. The wine is medium bodied, though it became more structured and dense in the bottle than from the cask. The palate is graceful, silky, and finely tuned, with flavours of raspberry, redcurrant, and warm cherry confiture. It is guided by waves of fine, firm tannins, which are long-lived. Stylistically, it is an elegant, masculine, and refined wine, showcasing finesse and a life-affirming sense of balance. The ABV is 13.5%. It has a long, structured finish that shows minerals and chalk. The optimal drinking window is from 2023 through 2040, or even 2042. Information on the organic status of the wine is not available in the sources.

Vintage Quality
The 2012 vintage for Château Margaux was considered "almost" a great vintage, possessing purity, balance, and charm. The harvest of the reds took place between September 25th and October 16th, before the weather really deteriorated. Wineries with the financial capacity to rigorously sort the grapes produced the best wines.
