Chateau Mouton Rothschild Collection
The Flamboyant First Growth: Discover the Legendary Pauillac Estate Renowned for Its Artist-Designed Labels, Exotic Spice Aromatics, Opulent Structure, and Unrivaled Prestige.
A Legacy of Vision, Art, and Excellence
Acquired by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild in 1853, Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the most celebrated names in global fine wine. Driven by the legendary ambition of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Mouton achieved the historically unprecedented reclassification from Second Growth to Premier Grand Cru Classé (First Growth) in 1973—a feat captured by his famous motto: "First I cannot be, second I do not deign to be, Mouton I am." Today, the estate remains under the family's stewardship, guided by Camille Sereys de Rothschild, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild.
Mouton Rothschild stands apart for its theatrical flair and uncompromising quality. Since 1945, every vintage of the Grand Vin features an original artwork on its label created by world-renowned artists, including Picasso, Chagall, Warhol, and Koons.
Sun-Drenched Gravel Tops & Custom Cellar Mastercraft
Spanning 90 hectares in the Pauillac appellation, the vineyards of Mouton are situated on deep gravel mounds (croupes) composed of pebbles, sand, and clay over a limestone bedrock. These nutrient-poor soils force the vine roots to dig dozens of meters deep, while proximity to the Gironde estuary moderates temperature extremes:
-
Cabernet Sauvignon (~81%): The dominant variety of the estate. Planted on the sunniest gravel plateaus, it provides muscular body, firm tannic backbone, dark cassis fruit, and signature notes of roasted coffee and exotic spice.
-
Merlot (~15%): Grown on cooler clay-gravel plots to deliver opulent flesh, roundness, velvet texture, and mid-palate richness.
-
Cabernet Franc (~3%) & Petit Verdot (~1%): Adds aromatic finesse, delicate floral top-notes, vibrant pepper spice, and dark color density.
In the spectacular gravity-fed vat room, plot-by-plot vinification occurs in large oak and stainless steel vats. The Grand Vin matures for 18 to 20 months in 100% new French oak barrels, building incredible depth, seamless integration, and profound cellaring power.
The World-Class Wine Portfolio
-
Château Mouton Rothschild (Grand Vin - Premier Grand Cru Classé): The pinnacle of Pauillac luxury. Opulent, aromatic, and deeply complex, offering explosive notes of crème de cassis, mint, cedar, mocha, exotic spices, and pencil lead framed by plush, velvety tannins. Designed to age gracefully for 20 to 60+ years.
-
Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild (Second Wine): First created in 1993, Le Petit Mouton is crafted from selected parcels across the estate and vinified with the same rigorous care as the Grand Vin. Rich, expressive, and fruit-forward, it displays black cherry, vanilla, and fine spice with accessible structure. Cellar window of 10 to 25 years.
-
Aile d'Argent (White Wine): A rare, highly sought-after dry white Bordeaux created by Baroness Philippine in the early 1990s. Blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and a touch of Muscadelle, fermented and aged in oak barrels. Highly aromatic, featuring white peach, citrus blossom, toasted brioche, and luscious texture balanced by crisp minerality.
-
Baronne Philippe de Rothschild (Cuvée Tribute): Specialty historical and regional expressions crafted under the technical supervision of the estate team, reflecting the family's broader winemaking legacy across Pauillac and the Médoc.
