Château Troplong Mondot Collection
The Sovereign Peak of Saint-Émilion: Experience the Premier Grand Cru Classé B Estate Celebrated for Its Panoramic Clay-Limestone Terroir, Vibrant Precision, and Opulent Structure.
A Monumental Estate on Saint-Émilion's Highest Crest
Perched at 106 meters above sea level—the highest point in the appellation—Château Troplong Mondot is one of the most commanding and iconic properties in Saint-Émilion. Promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé B in the 2006 classification, the estate's lineage dates back to the 17th century when it was established as part of the vast Mondot domain. Under the long stewardship of Christine Valette in the late 20th century, Troplong Mondot earned international acclaim for its dramatic, full-bodied profile.
Acquired in 2017 by the French insurance group SCOR and placed under the management of Aymeric de Gironde, the estate entered a transformative new era. Embracing earlier harvesting, subtle oak integration, and plot-by-plot precision farming, Troplong Mondot now balances its historic power with remarkable aromatic purity, limestone freshness, and architectural finesse.
High-Altitude Clay-Limestone & Precision Viticulture
Spanning 33 hectares in a single continuous block atop the Saint-Émilion plateau, the vineyard benefits from diverse exposures, excellent natural drainage, and a cool microclimate:
-
Merlot (~85%): Anchored in deep, thick sedimentary clay over a limestone bedrock base. It provides the wine's signature velvety texture, dark plum flesh, structural density, and opulent mid-palate power.
-
Cabernet Sauvignon (~13%): Grown on flinty gravel-clay soils, supplying firm tannins, dark cassis fruit, structural drive, and age-worthy tension.
-
Cabernet Franc (~2%): Adds delicate floral lifts, spice, and aromatic complexity.
Viticultural practices focus on biodiversity, cover cropping, and sustainable soil management. In the state-of-the-art gravity-fed cellar, fermentations occur in custom temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks tailored to individual micro-parcels. The Grand Vin matures in French oak barrels (typically 60% to 70% new) to achieve harmonious structural integration without overwhelming the terroir's natural mineral freshness.
The World-Class Wine Portfolio
-
Château Troplong Mondot (Grand Vin - Premier Grand Cru Classé B): A masterclass in power, freshness, and complexity. It reveals a rich aromatic spectrum of dark blackberries, black cherries, crushed chalk minerality, licorice, subtle spice, and violet blossoms. On the palate, broad-shouldered yet refined tannins lead into a long, vibrant finish marked by limestone tension. Cellars beautifully for 20 to 45+ years.
-
Mondot (Second Wine): Sourced from younger vines and selected plots on the estate. Crafted to showcase the accessible, charming side of Troplong Mondot, it offers lush dark berries, cocoa, and supple, velvety tannins for earlier enjoyment over a 10 to 18-year window.
Epicurean Food Pairings
-
Château Troplong Mondot Grand Vin: Roasted prime rib roast, slow-braised beef short ribs with truffle demi-glace, rack of lamb with herbs, roasted venison loin, pan-seared duck breast, or wild boar ragout.
-
Mondot: Grilled sirloin steak, roasted duck, braised pork shoulder, mushroom risotto, or aged artisan cheeses such as Comté, Saint-Nectaire, and Gouda.
