Colgin Cellars Collection
Napa Valley Cult Icon: Experience the Singular Elegance, Perfumed Perfume Aromatics, and Uncompromising Precision of Ann Colgin’s Hillside Terroirs.
The Benchmark of Napa Valley Cult Wines
Founded in 1992 by Ann Colgin, Colgin Cellars stands at the absolute pinnacle of California fine wine. Renowned for its aromatic complexity, silkiness, and profound hillside minerality, Colgin helped define the modern era of Napa Valley "Cult Cabernet." In 2017, the luxury group LVMH acquired a majority stake in the estate, preserving its commitment to uncompromising quality while securing its legacy on the global stage.
Every bottle produced by Colgin Cellars comes from low-yielding, meticulously farmed hillside vineyards carved into the rocky slopes of Napa Valley. Under the direction of legendary winemaking talent over the decades—including Helen Turley, Mark Aubert, and long-time winemaker Allison Tauziet, along with Bordeaux consultant Alain Raynaud—Colgin wines are celebrated for achieving a rare duality: immense structural power paired with seamless grace.
Historic Vineyard Terroirs
Colgin’s portfolio is defined by distinct single-vineyard expressions rooted in exceptional volcanic and gravelly hillside soils:
-
IX Estate (Pritchard Hill): The home of the winery, a high-altitude 20-acre parcel in the coveted Pritchard Hill district overlooking Lake Hennessey. Carved from volcanic red clay and iron-rich rocks, this vineyard yields deeply fragrant, complex wines with intense perfume, sage, and dark fruit power.
-
Tychson Hill Vineyard (St. Helena): Located on the lower slopes of Spring Mountain, this historic plot was originally planted in 1881 by Josephine Tychson (Napa's first female winery owner). Replanted by Ann Colgin in 1997, its volcanic deposits yield a silkier, remarkably floral, and feminine expression of Cabernet Sauvignon.
-
Cariad (Madrona Ranch & Vine Hill Ranch): Meaning "love" in Welsh, Cariad is a masterful blend sourced from legendary viticulturist David Abreu’s sustainably farmed vineyards in St. Helena and Oakville.
-
Jubilation: Created to offer a more accessible, early-drinking perspective on Colgin's hillside holdings, showcasing bright red fruit charm and vibrant structural balance.
The Benchmark Single-Vineyard Bottlings
-
Colgin IX Estate Red Wine: A classic Bordeaux-style blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Famed for notes of crushed blackberries, graphite, dried sage, cedar, and velvety tannins.
-
Colgin IX Estate Syrah: A rare, cool-climate style hillside Syrah grown on Pritchard Hill. Explodes with lavender, iron, white pepper, cured meats, and dark plum intensity.
-
Colgin Tychson Hill Cabernet Sauvignon: A 100% Cabernet Sauvignon single-vineyard release recognized for its intense violet floral aromatics, cassis, crushed rock minerality, and extraordinary finesse.
-
Colgin Cariad Red Wine: A Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend enriched with significant proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, offering dark chocolate, espresso, savory herbs, and seamless oak integration.
Epicurean Food Pairings
-
Red Meats: Roasted rack of lamb with rosemary, dry-aged prime ribeye, and seared venison tenderloin with a blackberry reduction.
-
Game & Braised Dishes: Slow-braised short ribs, duck breast with a cherry demi-glace, and wild boar stew.
-
Cheeses & Truffle Dishes: Truffle-infused risottos, rich mushroom tarts, and aged artisan cheeses like 36-month Gouda or Comté.
