Diamond Creek Vineyards Collection
Napa Valley’s Single-Terroir Pioneer: Experience Diamond Mountain's Historic Micro-Terroirs, Volcanic Energy, and Legendary Cabernet Sauvignons.
The Uncompromising Legacy of Napa Valley Single-Terroir Founded in 1968 by Al and Boots Brounstein, Diamond Creek Vineyards was born out of a visionary vision: that Napa Valley could produce Cabernet Sauvignon defined not by blending across the valley, but by showcasing the distinct micro-terroirs of a single estate. Nestled high on the secluded slopes of Diamond Mountain in northwestern Napa Valley, Diamond Creek became California’s first winery dedicated exclusively to single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.
Acquired in 2020 by the historic Louis Roederer Champagne house (Maison Louis Roederer), Diamond Creek continues its uncompromising dedication to single-terroir expression. Grown on microscopic plots with radically different soil compositions, exposure, and microclimates, Diamond Creek Cabernets are renowned for their volcanic energy, firm structural tannins, laser-focused minerality, and incredible multi-decade cellaring potential.
The Legendary Single-Vineyard Terroirs
-
Volcanic Hill (8 Acres): The warmest of the estate’s sites, planted on white volcanic ash soils. Produces the most powerful, densely structured, and age-worthy Cabernet of the trio, marked by cassis, wild blackberry, crushed rock, graphite, and firm, muscular tannins.
-
Red Rock Terrace (7 Acres): Situated on steep, iron-rich red clay hillsides overlooking the canyon. Warmer afternoon light yields a more velvety, aromatic Cabernet bursting with red cherry, sweet cress, wild thyme, cocoa powder, and polished, supple tannins.
-
Gravelly Meadow (5 Acres): The coolest and lowest-yielding site, situated on a ancient riverbed with gravelly, stony soils. Known for producing elegant, restrained Cabernet with remarkable aromatic freshness, high-toned floral notes, cedar, sagebrush, and seamless balance.
-
Lake Vineyard: A microscopic parcel (under one acre) within Gravelly Meadow that ripens fully only in exceptional years. Bottled rarely as a historic ultra-collector item, it represents the absolute peak of Diamond Mountain depth and complexity.
Viticultural & Cellar Philosophy
-
Varietal Precision: While centered on Cabernet Sauvignon, small proportions of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot are interplanted and harvested to complement each vineyard's distinct textural structure.
-
Oak Maturation: Aged meticulously in 100% French oak barrels (largely new) for 18 to 22 months, ensuring seamless oak integration that frames the intense mountain fruit without masking site minerality.
-
Cellar Longevity: Diamond Creek Cabernets are built for patience. While approachable with extended decanting in their youth, great vintages reward cellaring for 25 to 40+ years.
Epicurean Food Pairings
-
Prime Cuts & Game: Wood-fired dry-aged ribeye steak, roasted rack of lamb with rosemary crust, braised venison shanks, and grilled bison tenderloin.
-
Rich Savory Dishes: Roasted duck breast with cherry reduction, truffle-infused mushroom risotto, and short rib ragù over polenta.
-
Aged Cheeses: Aged Gouda, 36-month Parmigiano-Reggiano, and strong blue cheeses like Stilton or Point Reyes Original Blue.
