Product description
This structured and 'vibrant' red wine originates from Italy, within the prestigious Barolo D.O.C.G. appellation of the northern Piedmont region. The Renato Ratti estate is universally celebrated as a historic revolutionary force in modern Piedmontese winemaking; in the 1960s, founder Renato Ratti single-handedly reshaped the region by introducing the concept of single-vineyard crus and drafting the first modern classification map of Barolo's terroirs. The "Marcenasco" vineyard—located in the commune of La Morra below the ancient 15th-century Abbey of Annunziata—holds a monumental legacy as the very first single-vineyard Barolo ever bottled by the estate, beginning with the historic 1965 vintage. Today, under the guidance of Renato's son, Pietro Ratti, the winery produces this flagship cuvée from old vines rooted in silt, clay, and calcareous marl soils, capturing the legendary elegance and aromatic complexity of La Morra.
Wine Description
The 2021 Renato Ratti 'Marcenasco' Barolo presents a classic, reflective garnet-red appearance in the glass. Its sensory profile is exceptionally elegant, complex, and high-toned, perfectly embodying the finesse-driven style of La Morra. The bouquet opens with a captivating, multi-faceted display of macerated red cherries, cranberries, and preserved orange peel, beautifully layered with fragrant underlays of fresh violets, sweet licorice, tobacco leaf, and a distinct line of graphite and chalky minerality. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, precise, and beautifully focused, showcasing a core of crunchy red fruits, pomegranate, and mulling spices. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and a refreshing, vibrant backbone of natural acidity. The mouthfeel is remarkably sleek and polished, driven by lavish, ultra-fine, and velvety tannins that carry into a long, youthful, and highly savory finish highlighted by lingering notes of minty herbs, incense, and a pinch of black pepper.
