Tenuta Tignanello - An Antinori Estate
Located in the heart of Chianti Classico, between the Greve and Pesa valleys, Tenuta Tignanello is one of the most renowned estates in Tuscany. Owned by the Antinori family, who have been involved in winemaking since 1385, the estate covers 319 hectares, with 130 hectares dedicated to vineyards. The estate is famous for pioneering the "Super Tuscan" movement, introducing wines that challenged traditional Italian winemaking regulations by incorporating non-native grape varieties.
At the core of Tenuta Tignanello is its prized vineyard, a 57-hectare plot situated on limestone-rich soils at an altitude of 350–400 meters. The estate’s winemaking philosophy balances tradition with innovation, utilizing French oak barrels and meticulous vineyard management to craft wines of exceptional structure and complexity.
Wines Produced at Tenuta Tignanello:
- Tignanello – The flagship wine, first produced in 1971, blends Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It was one of the first Italian wines aged in small oak barrels and the first Sangiovese-based wine to incorporate international varieties.
- Solaia – A powerful and elegant red, primarily composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, with Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc. First released in 1978, it is considered one of Italy’s greatest wines.
- Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva – A classic expression of Chianti Classico, made primarily from Sangiovese with a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
- Villa Antinori Toscana – A blend of Sangiovese with international varieties, representing a more accessible, everyday expression of the estate’s style.
