Product description
This wine is from Italy, originating in the Tuscany region, specifically the Rosso di Montalcino DOC. Caparzo is one of the 30 historical wineries in Montalcino, established in the late 1960s. The winery's name is thought to originate from Ca' Pazzo, meaning 'House of the Crazy,' as seen in ancient maps. A key strength of Caparzo is that it possesses vineyards in nearly all of Montalcino's best areas, which allows the estate to draw the best from every vintage. The estate's philosophy is centred on maintaining faith with the traditions of Brunello and the local terroirs, while also embracing a creative spirit and dedication to innovation to ensure the highest quality. In 1977, Caparzo was a pioneer in Montalcino, introducing the concept of Cru by vinifying grapes from the La Casa vineyard separately.
Wine Description
The Caparzo Rosso di Montalcino 2024 is an intense ruby red in color. It is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes. The bouquet is complex and persistent, with an expressive nose that is reminiscent of violets, raspberries, and pomegranates. Some primary taste impressions noted are very young cherries, sweet licorice, and cedar.
On the palate, the wine is described as warm, dry, generous (or rich), and well-balanced. It has a medium body, silky tannins, and lively acidity. Stylistically, it is characterised as strong, spicy, and earthy, with perceptible tannins and acidity. The wine is structured to perfectly embody the Caparzo philosophy of technical perfection with a great sense of terroir. The wine is aged for four to eight months in a combination of stainless steel and oak wood, followed by a minimum of three months in the bottle. The optimal drinking window is suggested for several years of aging (four to eight) for those with patience, but it can also be enjoyed in its youth.
