Product description
Introduction
This red wine originates from Spain, specifically the esteemed Ribera del Duero region. The wine is produced by Bodegas Cepa 21, a winery founded in 2005 by José Moro. Cepa 21 embodies a vision that successfully unites generational heritage with an innovative approach to winemaking. Located in Castrillo de Duero, the winery is a beacon of modern Ribera del Duero, surrounded by 50 hectares of estate vineyards. The 'Hito' bottling is a testament to the estate’s forward momentum and deep respect for its roots. The word 'Hito' means a stone post, often used to mark boundaries or directions, and this wine is a young expression introduced to complete the modern range.
Wine Description
'Hito' pours a deep Picota cherry hue with violet edges, appearing clean and bright. The wine is 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo). The nose is expressive and true to the varietal, showcasing primary aromas of ripe blackberries, violets, and red fruits. Subtle hints of liquorice and fine toast from the time spent in oak are also present.
The palate is round and inviting, displaying a juicy black fruit core wrapped in elegant spice and subtle notes of vanilla and chocolate. The mouthfeel is balanced and smooth, with an intense and honest character. The tannins are velvety and firm, providing structure without overwhelming its youthful charm. This is a medium-bodied red with vibrant freshness and an approachable nature. The finish is long, balanced, and punctuated by spicy fruit and mineral nuances that echo its high-altitude terroir. The wine is made from grapes harvested from the lowest parts of the estate's young vineyards, grown in chalky, clayey, and stony soils. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel for 12 days, followed by malolactic fermentation, and then the wine is aged in French oak barrels. The optimal drinking window is now or over the next four to five years.
