Product description

This wine is from Spain, specifically the Jumilla DOP region, located in Murcia in the southeastern part of the country. Las Hermanas is produced by Bodegas Luzón, which has a history of winemaking dating back to the 19th century. Bodegas Luzón is known as a master of Monastrell (Mourvèdre), which finds its best expression in the highlands of Jumilla. The winery was pioneering, being run by the women of the founding family until nearly the end of the 20th century. The winery’s philosophy is centred on its four indispensable elements: the Monastrell varietal, the calcareous-sandy soils, the climate which helps the grapes ripen healthily, and a dedicated team. The vineyards are managed sustainably, using techniques that respect biodiversity.

Wine Description

The Las Hermanas Monastrell 2024 shows an intense cherry red colour with a purple hue. It is made from Monastrell (also known as Mourvèdre) grapes. Many vintages of Las Hermanas are produced from organically grown grapes and are certified vegan. On the nose, it offers very intense aromas of red ripe fruit and floral hints, with some sources noting high-pitched aromas of red berries, spices, and a subtle note of violet.

The palate is described as very fruity and fresh, smooth, and tasty. It is a simple and juicy wine. The wine features sweet and mature tannins and a balanced acidity. It is spicy and energetic on the palate, offering flavours of red berry and cracked pepper that gain weight and sweetness with air. It has a fruit-driven finish, which is clean and nervy, showing good clarity and a hint of bitter cherry.
