Product description
Crafted in the United States, this Syrah hails from Washington State's Columbia Valley. L’Ecole No. 41, established in 1983 by Baker and Jean Ferguson, is a family-owned winery situated in the historic Frenchtown Schoolhouse in Walla Walla Valley. As the third winery in the valley, it has garnered acclaim for producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of Washington State. Currently managed by second-generation owners Marty and Megan Clubb, with involvement from the third generation, the winery emphasizes sustainable farming and traditional winemaking techniques.
Wine Description
The 2018 Columbia Valley Syrah exhibits a deep purple hue. On the nose, it offers aromas of black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, violets, licorice, and wet stone. The palate reveals flavors of raspberry, plum, cherry, mocha, and pepper, complemented by a plush mouthfeel and silky tannins. This wine is a blend of 80% Syrah, 18% Grenache, and 2% Mourvèdre, hand-harvested and fermented in small stainless steel fermenters. It was aged for 18 months in 100% small oak barrels, predominantly neutral, allowing the varietal character to shine through. With an alcohol content of 15% and good acidity (pH 3.6), it presents a medium-plus body and a moderately long finish.
