Product description
This structured and 'historic' red wine originates from Italy, within the Cannonau di Sardegna D.O.C. appellation of the Mediterranean island of Sardinia. Sourced from the historic Sella & Mosca estate founded in 1899 by two visionary Piedmontese professionals, engineer Erminio Sella and lawyer Edgardo Mosca the property spans a massive, contiguous vineyard footprint in the Alghero region of northwest Sardinia. The estate operates under a winemaking philosophy that marries proud island traditions with modern technological precision, utilizing low-intervention farming to amplify site transparency. The old vines are rooted in unique, ancient soils composed of alluvial clay, wind-blown sand, and iron-rich trachyte limestone that naturally control vine vigor to concentrate structural depth within the fruit.
Wine Description
The 2021 Sella & Mosca Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva presents an intense ruby-red appearance with brilliant garnet highlights at the rim. Its sensory profile is wonderfully warm, complex, and Mediterranean, opening with an expressive bouquet of ripe red cherries, wild raspberries, and plum preserves, beautifully layered with classic notes of macchia (wild island scrub), myrtle berries, leather, and sweet oak spices. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, generous, and texturally rich, showcasing a deep core of dark stone fruits and savory herbs. It is characterized by an outstanding structural balance, showing a vibrant backbone of acidity that seamlessly lifts the wine's natural power. The mouthfeel is velvety and warm, driven by firm, fine-grained tannins that glide into a long, dry, and persistent finish detailed by lingering notes of crushed stones, white pepper, and tobacco leaf.
