Product description

Produced by Concha y Toro under the guidance of visionary winemaker Ignacio Recabarren, Terrunyo (derived from the Spanish word terruño, meaning terroir) represents a watershed moment in South American viticulture. The Terrunyo line was created to isolate and highlight single vineyard blocks capable of expressing pure varietal character and world-class quality.

The Terrunyo Carmenère from Block 27 of the historic Peumo Vineyard is widely recognized as the benchmark expression of Carmenère globally. It was this specific plot in the Cachapoal Valley that proved Carmenère—long misidentified in Chile as Merlot—was not only distinct, but capable of producing profound, age-worthy wines that rival the finest Bordeaux varietals.

Wine Description

The Terrunyo Peumo Vineyard Carmenère pours a deep, opaque violet-plum color. On the nose, it offers an expressive and complex bouquet of ripe black plum, dark chocolate, sweet spice, and tobacco leaf, beautifully integrated with subtle savory green pepper, crushed graphite, and cedar notes.

On the palate, the wine is rich, plush, and voluptuously textured, yet kept impeccably balanced by vibrant acidity and fine-grained, velvety tannins. Flavors of blackberry jam, fig, and dark cherry fold into nuances of espresso, mocha, black pepper, and dried herbs.

Food Pairing

The luxurious texture and herbal-spicy complexity of this Carmenère make it a brilliant match for rich, savory, and spice-infused dishes. Excellent pairings include slow-braised short ribs, grilled lamb chops with rosemary, roasted duck breast, or Chilean empanadas de pino. It also handles roasted venison, pork tenderloin with a plum reduction, and dishes featuring caramelized onions, roasted bell peppers, or aged cheeses like Gouda and Manchego.
