Product description
This deep and structured red wine originates from the United States, within the Livermore Valley region of California. Wente Vineyards is a historic family-owned winery whose portfolio reflects the legacy of pioneering viticulture in the region. Named after one of the valley's most prominent pioneers, Charles Wetmore, who famously planted vine cuttings from top Bordeaux Châteaux in the 1880s, the wine highlights a historical lineage of exceptional viticulture. The winery operates under a philosophy of sustainable land stewardship, cultivating descendants of these original French vines across well-drained estate parcels.
Wine Description
The 2022 Wente Charles Wetmore Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon opens with an aromatic sensory profile of black currant and cassis, beautifully complemented by a unique hint of 'Livermore Dust'. Creamy oak influences introduce inviting layers of roasted cocoa nibs and hardwood complexity. On the palate, the wine delivers full-bodied layers of ripe black cherry and plum. While initially supple, it transitions smoothly into a deep, rich profile balanced by a firm tannin structure and velvety acidity that ensures excellent aging potential. The finish is remarkably long and satisfying.
This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was fermented in stainless steel tanks with pump-overs performed at least twice daily to maximize flavor extraction. It reached an alcohol content (ABV) of 14.5% and was aged for 18 months in a barrel program consisting of 40% new French oak and 60% second and third-use French oak barrels. Rooted in the gravelly loam soils between the Arroyo del Valle and Arroyo Mocho streams, the vineyard blocks are certified sustainable.
