The Catena Zapata family's mission is to make profound and unforgettable wines that reflect the special character of each vine within the family's historic vineyards. Constantly pushing the viticultural envelope, Nicolás and Laura Catena have identified Mendoza's best microclimates, selected the highest quality Malbec vines and pioneered viticulture in undiscovered regions. The inaugural 1997 vintage of Nicolas Catena Zapata, a Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec blend set a new standard of quality for wines from South America. 20 years later, it stands at the pinnacle of great wines of the Andes.
97 Points James Suckling ... The approachable 2017 Nicolás Catena Zapata has a little more Cabernet Franc in the blend, even if the majority is Cabernet Sauvignon and there is some Malbec. It has a touch of ripeness in the nose but without excess. The palate comes through as balanced and perhaps a little lighter. It has very fine tannins and a clean, focused finish.
