Product description

1. Introduction

This arak is an authentic, traditional anise-flavoured spirit and is considered the national drink of Lebanon. It originates from Lebanon, produced by Château Ksara, the country's largest winery, located in the Bekaa Valley. Château Ksara was established in 1857 by French Jesuit monks. The company, which was later bought by a local consortium of businessmen in 1973, is known for its long history and resilience. Château Ksara uses Obeidy (or sometimes Ugni Blanc) grapes, an indigenous variety, as the base.

2. Spirit Description

Ksarak Arak is a premium, aniseed-based eau-de-vie that is triple-distilled. The first distillation releases alcohol from the wine base, and subsequent distillations are done in a specially designed alembic still to infuse the spirit with fresh green aniseed. The aniseed is sourced exclusively from the prized Al Heeneh village on the slopes of Mount Hermon. Through an innovative technique, only the heart of the distillate, known as the 'pure flower,' is used. The spirit is matured for 28 months (approximately 2 years) in traditional hand-made clay jars from the village of Beit Chebab.

  • Colour: Clear in its pure form. When diluted with water, it transforms into a milky-white elixir (the louche effect).

  • Aroma: It has pronounced and complex herbal aromas of anise and licorice.

  • Palate: The taste is spicier than other araks. It has the typical aroma of licorice, with notes of pepper and fennel.

  • Body: Medium body.

  • Finish: The finish confirms its complex herbal and spicy flavours.

  • Stylistic Notes: Ksarak is refined to be the purest and healthiest arak. Its clean taste and purity are the result of the innovative distillation and maturation process.

  • ABV: The alcoholic strength is 53% ABV.
