Product description

Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2015 originates from France, within the Pauillac appellation of the Médoc region in Bordeaux. This legendary estate, a First Growth (Premier Cru Classé) since the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, has been owned by the Rothschild family since 1868. The winery follows a philosophy of excellence and precision, often described as producing 'the wine of kings' due to its long history of serving European royalty and its ability to express the unique gravel and clay terroir of the Plateau des Carruades.

Wine Description

This vintage presents a deep garnet-purple or dark ruby colour with purple reflections. The aromatic profile is complex and multifaceted, offering notes of black raspberries, red currants, and crushed plums, interwoven with scents of cedar, tobacco, lead pencil, and violets. On the palate, it is medium to full bodied and elegantly styled, delivering a vibrant core of fruit balanced by a salty minerality and fresh acidity. The structure is defined by seductively silky yet firm, fine-grained tannins that lead to a very long, racy, and pure finish. The varietal composition for the 2015 vintage is 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Merlot. It has an ABV typically recorded between 12.5% and 12.8%. While the estate utilizes meticulous viticulture and precise sorting, this wine is not certified organic.

Food Pairing

The aristocratic elegance and firm tannic structure of this Barolo make it a superlative partner for classic, high-quality meat dishes. Suggested pairings include roasted rack of lamb, grilled ribeye steak, veal, and duck breast. It also complements wild game, such as venison or wild boar, and savoury dishes featuring truffles or wild mushrooms. For a cheese course, it pairs best with aged hard cheeses like Comté, Parmesan, or matured Cheddar.

Vintage Quality

The 2015 vintage in Pauillac is considered exceptional, characterized by a temperate growing season with a warm summer balanced by timely August rains that prevented excessive water stress. These ideal conditions allowed the grapes to reach perfect maturity, resulting in a vintage that harmoniously combines power with Lafite's signature finesse. Winemakers utilized their own cooperage, Tonnellerie des Domaines, to age the wine in 100% new oak barrels, ensuring the structure was perfectly integrated with the intense fruit core.
