Product description

This wine comes from the country of France, specifically the Bordeaux region, and more precisely the subregion of Pauillac. Château Pontet-Canet is a historic estate that was classified as a Fifth Growth in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. Since 1975, it has been owned by the Tesseron family, who were also known for their cognac company. The current philosophy of the estate, led by Alfred Tesseron, is based on a commitment to biodynamic viticulture, which is a major focus of their winemaking. This dedication to working in harmony with nature is believed to contribute to the wine's energy and intensity.

Wine Description

The 2019 Pontet-Canet has a deep, almost black, garnet-purple colour. The aroma is complex and enchanting, featuring notes of prunes, creme de cassis, wilted roses, spice box, iron ore, and underbrush. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich, and concentrated wine with layers of black fruit and a touch of mint. It has a framework of fine-grained tannins that are both powerful and velvety, which support the complex, layered flavours and lead to a very long, mineral-laced finish. The wine is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. It is considered a wine with significant aging potential, with an optimal drinking window after 2028. This wine is certified organic and biodynamic.

Food Pairing

Château Pontet-Canet is a versatile wine that pairs well with classic meat dishes such as veal, pork, beef, lamb, and duck. It can also be a good match for grilled or roasted dishes, rich fish like tuna, and various hard and soft cheeses. The bold tannins and rich fruit flavours complement hearty meals. Together, they create an unforgettable dining experience.

Vintage Quality

The 2019 vintage in Bordeaux followed a mild winter. Despite a cold snap in May, flowering was uniform and quick, and the summer that followed helped the grapes ripen. The vintage is described as having great precision and definition, and it promises to be a great vintage from this biodynamic estate. The winemaker's skill is evident in the excellent balance and integration of this wine.
