Domaine Nico 'Le Paradis' 2020

This fragrant and 'seductive' red wine originates from Argentina, within the Uco Valley region of Mendoza and the high-elevation subregion of Gualtallary in Tupungato. Domaine Nico is a specialized project from the prestigious Catena family, founded by Dr. Laura Catena out of her fascination with regionality and unique expressions of Pinot Noir. The estate's name honors Laura's daughter, Nicola, as well as her great-grandfather who founded Catena Zapata. Sourced from a tiny 1.1-hectare parcel planted in 2011 with Dijon clone 667, the winemaking team focuses on cultivating fruit at the extreme limits of high-altitude viticulture.

Wine Description

The 2020 Domaine Nico 'Le Paradis' Pinot Noir presents a beautifully round, medium-bodied appearance in the glass. Its sensory profile is wonderfully perfumed and complex, opening with delicate aromas of rose petals that gradually reveal a powerful bouquet of fresh raspberries and cherries. On the palate, juicy red fruits mingle seamlessly with a strong herbal and chalky character, offering refinement, balance, and a fine touch of spice. It is characterized by its transparent structure and subtle undertones of earth and fine oak that emerge gracefully after a few minutes of breathing. This 100% Pinot Noir reached an alcohol content (ABV) of 13.5%. The grapes were carefully handled using micro-vinifications with 50% whole clusters, followed by 16 to 18 months of maturation in French oak barrels, utilizing 30% new wood and 70% second-use barrels. While the vineyard is farmed with a philosophy of capturing pure varietal identity, this bottling is not certified organic.
