Product description

Duckhorn Vineyards' 2019 Howell Mountain Napa Valley Red Wine is a remarkable expression of the rugged, high-elevation terroir of Howell Mountain. Known for its structured and complex wines, this sub-appellation of Napa Valley produces reds with depth, elegance, and remarkable aging potential.

Blend Composition

This vintage is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc. The wine was aged for 18 months in 100% French oak barrels, with 75% new oak and 25% neutral oak, adding layers of spice, texture, and integration.

Tasting Notes

  • Aroma: Rich and inviting, with layers of black currant, blackberry, and elderberry, complemented by hints of cocoa nibs, sage, and subtle minerality.
  • Palate: Dark-berry flavors dominate, framed by fine, dusty tannins and well-integrated oak. Notes of dark chocolate, clove, and baking spice emerge, leading to a long, luxurious finish.
  • Structure: Firm yet polished tannins give the wine excellent aging potential while maintaining an opulent and well-balanced mouthfeel.

Vintage Overview

The 2019 growing season featured a wet winter followed by a mild spring, leading to a slightly delayed start. A warm but stable summer with no significant heat spikes allowed for slow, even ripening, resulting in wines with refined tannins, intense aromatics, and excellent flavor concentration.

Serving and Pairing

This wine is best enjoyed at a serving temperature of 16–18°C (60–64°F). Decanting for at least an hour before serving will enhance its aromatics and complexity. It pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, roasted lamb, or aged cheeses, complementing its richness and structure.
