Product description
This exceptional wine comes from the United States, specifically the renowned Napa Valley in California. Located in the Calistoga subregion, the Three Palms Vineyard is a legendary site named for its three iconic palm trees. Duckhorn Vineyards, founded in 1976 by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn, was one of the first 40 wineries in Napa Valley and a pioneer in producing luxury Merlot. Since their inaugural 1978 harvest from this vineyard, the estate has focused on a philosophy of quality and excellence, utilizing the site's lean, rocky soils to produce intense, age worthy wines with profound mineral layers. Today, winemaking is led by Renée Ary, who continues the legacy of mastering this world-renowned estate program.
Wine Description
The 2020 Three Palms Merlot is an elegant and profoundly complex red wine. It opens with alluring aromas of fresh cranberry, huckleberry, and raspberry, complemented by delicate notes of crushed rose petals and graham crackers. On the palate, it reveals mesmerizing layers of black fig and cocoa powder that mingle with lush berry flavors. Sophisticated notes of minerality emerge on the long, resonant finish.
This vintage is a blend of 98% Merlot and 2% Malbec. It was aged for 18 months in 100% French oak, with 75% being new barrels. While the wine shows immediate appeal with its juicy center and savory plum notes, it is built with broad-shouldered tannins that suggest an optimal drinking window from 2025 through 2031. This 1.5 litre magnum format is ideal for extended aging and special occasions.
