Product description

France’s Rhône Valley is home to the prestigious Côte Rôtie appellation, where E. Guigal stands as one of the region’s most celebrated producers. Founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, the estate remains family-owned, now led by Marcel and Philippe Guigal. The Château d’Ampuis, a historic 16th-century fortress overlooking the Rhône, serves as the winery’s headquarters and inspiration for this cuvée, which is crafted from their finest parcels on both Côte Blonde and Côte Brune slopes.

Wine Description

The 2017 Château d’Ampuis displays a deep, dark ruby colour with purple reflections. Aromas unfold in layers of blackberry, blueberry, and cherry, interwoven with smoky bacon fat, spices, and a subtle touch of vanilla from oak ageing. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and velvety, with concentrated flavours of dark fruits, prunes, and liquorice, accented by fine tannins and a long, racy finish. The blend of approximately 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier offers both structure and aromatic lift. While expressive today, this wine has excellent ageing potential of 15–20 years.

Accolades

Food Pairing

This robust Côte Rôtie pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, venison, or grilled ribeye, where the richness of the meat balances the wine’s intensity.
