Product description
Gaja Sperss 2020 is a Barolo crafted by the renowned Gaja winery, located in the Piedmont region of Italy. Established in 1859, Gaja has been instrumental in elevating the reputation of Italian wines on the global stage. The term "Sperss," meaning "nostalgia" in the local dialect, reflects the winery's return to producing Barolo after a period of focusing on Barbaresco.

- Color: Deep garnet red.
- Nose: Intense aromas of blackberries, plums, thyme, rosemary, clove, and allspice, complemented by subtle notes of leather and tar.
- Palate: Full-bodied and elegant, featuring juicy blackberries and cherries, with savory earth notes and fine-grained tannins providing structure.
- Finish: Long and persistent, with a harmonious balance of fruit and spice.
Accolades
- Wine Enthusiast: 98 Points – "Forward and lifted, this Barolo boasts blackberries, plums, thyme, rosemary, clove, and allspice. Elegant yet powerful, the lush palate is dominated by juicy blackberries and cherries, while savory earth notes emerge on the lengthy finish, supported by ultra-fine tannins. A mouth-filling and substantial wine with captivating depth."
- Vinous: 96 Points – "The 2020 Barolo Sperss is a dark, brooding wine. Black fruit, leather, incense, game, gravel, and scorched earth convey the essence of Serralunga's seriousness. A touch of small oak torrefaction character actually works well in this wine."
Optimal Drinking Window
This Barolo is expected to develop beautifully with age and is best enjoyed from 2026 through 2044.
