Product description

Labatt Blue is a titan of Canadian brewing and one of the best-selling Canadian beers in the world. Originally launched in 1951 as "Labatt Pilsener" to celebrate the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' Grey Cup victory, fans quickly nicknamed it "Blue" for its distinctive label. It eventually became the official name in 1979. While it has faced stiff competition over the decades, it remains a cultural touchstone—the quintessential "hockey game beer" known for its consistency and clean, unpretentious profile.

Beer Description

This Canadian Pilsner (more accurately an International Pale Lager) pours a pale, crystal-clear straw-gold with a light, fizzy white head that dissipates quickly.

Aroma: The nose is subtle and clean. It leads with a faint sweetness of corn and pale malt, accompanied by a very light, floral hop note. There are no heavy esters or complex aromatics here; it is designed to smell fresh and neutral.

Palate: On the tongue, it is light-bodied with high carbonation, providing a "prickly" and refreshing mouthfeel. The flavor is a balance of crackery malt and a touch of adjunct sweetness, finishing with a very mild, short-lived bitterness. It is remarkably "smooth," designed to be quenched rather than sipped.

Profile: It has a standard ABV of 5.0% and a low bitterness of 12 IBU, prioritizing refreshment above all else.

Technical Notes: Labatt Blue is brewed using a blend of Canadian barley and hallertau hops. A key part of its clean profile is the use of high-quality adjuncts (like corn) which lightens the body and prevents the beer from feeling too "heavy" or filling. It is fermented at low temperatures and cold-aged to ensure the yeast remains neutral, resulting in a consistent "crisp" finish every time.
