Product description

Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia 2020 is a distinguished red blend from the renowned Tenuta dell'Ornellaia estate in Bolgheri, Tuscany. As the estate's second wine, it reflects the same meticulous craftsmanship as their flagship Ornellaia, offering a harmonious and approachable expression of the region's terroir.

Blend Composition

  • Merlot: 44%
  • Cabernet Sauvignon: 30%
  • Cabernet Franc: 13%
  • Petit Verdot: 13%

Tasting Notes

  • Color: Deep ruby red with purple highlights.
  • Aroma: Seductive aromas of red fruits, such as cherry and raspberry, intertwined with spicy notes of pepper and licorice, complemented by subtle hints of vanilla and chocolate from oak aging.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and structured, featuring ripe red and black fruit flavors wrapped in velvety tannins. The wine exhibits a lush, elegant frame with a balanced acidity, leading to a long, flavorful finish.

Accolades

  • Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 93 Points – "A generous and darkly toned red blend that has the extra fruit fiber, sweetness, and generous plumpness of a warm vintage. The tannins are yielding and velvety, and this purebred Tuscan red wraps thickly over the palate."
  • Wine Enthusiast: 93 Points – "The nose starts off leathery and smoky, then turns herbaceous and salty, before finishing sweet with berries, plums, and roses. Fierce tannins clash beautifully with a velvety texture."
  • James Suckling: 93 Points
  • Wine Spectator: 92 Points

Serving Suggestions

  • Temperature: Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F).
  • Decanting: Decant for about an hour before serving to allow the wine to open up and reveal its full complexity.
  • Food Pairings: Complements well with lamb tagine, roast rack of lamb, beef ribs, and aged cheeses.

Cellaring Potential

Approachable in its youth, especially with decanting, this wine also has the potential to develop further complexity with additional cellaring over the next 10-15 years.
