Product description

Introduction

Masi Amarone Costasera Riserva 2018 is a red wine from Italy, produced in the Veneto region and the Valpolicella Classica D.O.C.G. appellation. The wine is made by Masi Agricola, a producer with a history dating back to 1772, when the Boscaini family acquired the Vaio dei Masi estate. Masi is recognized as one of the world's leading specialists in the ancient Venetian technique of appassimento (grape drying), which is essential to making Amarone. The 'Costasera' name refers to the winery's vineyards on the "evening side" of the hills, which receive the benefit of the setting sun, aiding the drying process. The 'Riserva' designation indicates a selection of the best grapes and extended maturation.

Wine Description

The wine is deep, intense, and impenetrable ruby red in colour. The aromatic profile is complex and mature, offering concentrated notes of baked fruit, plum, and raspberry jam. Further nuances include cocoa, cinnamon, black pepper, vanilla, and hints of mint.

The varietal composition is a blend of Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara. The blend consists of 70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, and 5% Molinara and Oseleta. It is a full bodied wine. The palate is smooth, powerful, and majestic, with excellent structure and concentrated, luscious flavours of cherry, plum, and chocolate. The fruit is balanced by a refreshing acidity and velvety tannins. Stylistically, it is a magnificent, intense, and elegant Amarone that is a textbook example of its appellation. The wine is aged for 38 months in new Slavonian oak barrels and then for a further 12 months in the bottle. The finish is long, persistent, and warm. The ABV is 15.5%. The optimal drinking window is to drink now through 2050. Information on the organic status of the wine is not available in the sources.
