Product description
Introduction
Masi Campofiorin 2021 is a red wine from Italy, produced in the Veneto region under the Rosso del Veronese I.G.T. (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) or Verona IGT appellation. The wine is made by Masi Agricola, a historic winery dating back to 1772, famous for its mastery of the ancient Venetian appassimento (grape drying) technique. Campofiorin, created in 1964, is internationally recognized as a "Super Venetian," a classic that bridges the gap between simple Valpolicella and complex Amarone. The winery's philosophy utilizes a double fermentation technique: re-fermenting the young red wine on a percentage of the same grape varieties that have been partially dried, enriching the wine with structure and aroma.
Wine Description
The wine has a deep, intense ruby-red colour, sometimes with violet reflections on the edges. The aromatic profile is rich and inviting, offering scents of ripe cherry, dark fruit, plum, and red fruits, often with hints of balsamic. Notes of sweet spices, vanilla, and cocoa also emerge.
The varietal composition is a blend of traditional Veronese grapes: Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara. The blend is approximately 70-72% Corvina, 23-25% Rondinella, and 5% Molinara. It is a medium-bodied to full-bodied wine. The palate is rich, smooth, and velvety, yet approachable. It has intense, refreshing flavours of cherry, dark fruit, and red fruits, with dark chocolate notes on the finish. The tannins are refined, well-integrated, and soft, with a refreshing acidity that gives the wine length. Stylistically, it is a classic, harmonious, and sophisticated wine that possesses both richness and great versatility. The wine is aged for at least 18 months in wood, with a portion in new Slavonian and Allier oak barrels, followed by three months of bottle aging. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent. The ABV is 13.0%. The optimal drinking window is to drink now or age for 5 to 10 years. Information on the organic status of the wine is not available in the sources, but Masi is committed to sustainable practices.

Vintage Quality
While the 2021 vintage specific information is limited, the general climate in the Verona area saw extensive rainfall from April to June, followed by good temperature changes between day and night, contributing to better flavour and more intense colour in the wine. The wine reflects Masi's continuous efforts to update the style, meeting modern tastes for ripe fruit and smooth textures, while retaining its classic complexity.
