Product description

Vecchio Amaro del Capo Riserva del Centenario is a special reserve liqueur produced in limited, numbered quantities by Gruppo Caffo in Calabria, Italy. This exclusive expression was created to celebrate the centenary of Distilleria Caffo (1915-2015). The Caffo family, with four generations of distilling expertise, has perfected the original Amaro del Capo recipe. The 'Riserva' represents a gift for connoisseurs, embodying a century of experience and passion.

Wine Description

Vecchio Amaro del Capo Riserva is a unique combination of Amaro and Italian brandy, with an alcohol content of $37.5\%$ ABV.

  • Production: It is made from a secret recipe of 29 Calabrian herbs, flowers, fruits, and roots. The ingredients are infused according to ancient, artisanal methods and then blended with fine wine spirits (brandy) that have been aged for a long time in Slavonian oak barrels. The precious liqueur is then further refined in oak barrels for an additional six months to achieve maximum harmony among all its ingredients.

  • Sensory Profile: The liqueur displays an intense and bright amber or golden yellow colour.

    • Aroma: The nose is noted for being fruitier and softer than the classic expression. Aromas include honeysuckle, mandarin orange, saffron, candied fruit, citrus, with touches of cinnamon, licorice, and vanilla.

    • Palate: It is rich and decadent without being cloyingly sweet. The taste is delicate, with bitter notes well balanced by sweet notes. Flavours include spice and fruit, strawberry jam, gentian, bitter orange, cinnamon, and milk chocolate. It features a dried fruits-driven core with supporting flavours of black cherry, dried herbs, and red berries. The texture is rich.

    • Finish: The finish is long, with a medley of baking spices, most notably licorice and clove.

  • Stylistic Notes: This is a rewardingly complex sipper with layer upon layer of bitter herbs, sweet fruit, and oaken spice. It is intended as a refined digestivo and a product for meditation.
