Product description
Hailing from France, this legendary wine is produced in the Margaux appellation of the Médoc region in Bordeaux. Château Margaux, a Premier Grand Cru Classé since the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, is currently under the dedicated ownership of the Mentzelopoulos family, who have overseen the estate’s pursuit of excellence since 1977. The winery’s philosophy emphasizes a deep respect for its unique terroir, utilizing precise winemaking techniques and rigorous selection—only 36% of the 2009 harvest was used for the 'Grand Vin'—to achieve a signature balance of power and finesse.
Wine Description
The 2009 vintage displays a deep ruby to garnet colour and a complex, 'Burgundian' aromatic profile featuring abundant blueberry, cassis, and acacia flowers, with subtle layers of charcoal, graphite, and lilac. On the palate, the wine is full bodied and opulent, delivering a concentrated core of black fruits, savory leather, and sandalwood. It is characterized by remarkable tannic power that remains silky and well integrated, leading to a long, mineral laced finish with surprising freshness. The varietal composition is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, aged for approximately 20 months in 100% new French oak. While remarkably approachable now, this wine possesses an exceptional drinking window that extends to 2055 and beyond.
