Product description
The winery is situated next to a 16th-century Benedictine Monastery in Mendavia, a historic estate where monks began making wine over 500 years ago. The winery's philosophy was ambitious, aiming to return to the essence of Rioja winemaking by specialising in Reserva and Gran Reserva wines and emphasising the significance of their estate vineyards.
Wine Description
The nose is rich and uplifting, dominated by aromas of black fruit such as blackberries and plums, black berry compote, and jam. These fruit notes are complemented by fine woods, black tea, coconut, licorice, balsamic oak, and hints of cocoa and clove. On the palate, the wine is structured, complex, and flavourful, with a full body. It presents as juicy and elegant, with well-integrated, glossy tannins and a profile that includes smoky, almost peaty notes.
Food Pairing
This full-bodied red wine is a versatile companion to hearty dishes like beef steaks, stews, and game. Its notes of black fruit, spice, and savoury smoked notes are also a perfect complement to rich, meaty pizza.
