The Marqués de Murrieta winery is rooted in the history of Rioja, with founder Don Luciano Murrieta applying techniques learned in Bordeaux to create the first fine Rioja wine in 1852. Today, the winery is led by the Cebrián-Sagarriga family. Their winemaking philosophy is based on producing only premium, age-worthy wines from grapes grown exclusively on their 300-hectare Ygay Estate, which surrounds the winery in the southernmost point of Rioja Alta.
Wine Description
On the palate, it presents as a medium- to full-bodied wine, where the richness of the dark fruit is beautifully counterbalanced by bright acidity and fine-grained, silky tannins. The stylistic notes include a structured freshness and a palpable elegance, with an integrated oak character that brings cedar, tobacco leaf, and sweet spice complexity. It has a long, elegant finish that leaves a lasting impression of red fruit, spice, and a slight mineral edge.
