Product description
Introduction
Produced in the United States, this polished red wine is a signature offering from the Columbia Valley in Washington State. 14 Hands Winery draws its inspiration from the wild mustangs that once freely roamed the hills of eastern Washington, standing a mere '14 hands' high; this untamed spirit is reflected in their bold and fruit-forward winemaking philosophy. Long part of the Ste. Michelle Wine Estates portfolio, the winery transitioned to local family ownership in late 2025 when it was acquired by the Wyckoff family, longtime Washington grape growers dedicated to championing the region's unique terroir.
Wine Description
Hot to Trot Smooth Red Blend presents a deep ruby or dark garnet colour in the glass. The nose is generous and complex, offering aromas of cherry, red currant, and dark stone fruits, complemented by a subtle whiff of black tea and a hint of baking spice. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and 'fleshy', delivering flavours of cherry pie, ripe berries, and plums. It is characterized by a smooth, velvety mouthfeel supported by refined tannins and a persistent finish that leaves a lingering note of mocha and spice.
This versatile blend is predominantly composed of Merlot and Syrah, often bolstered by smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, or Petite Sirah. To preserve its fresh fruit character and soften the structure, the wine is aged for roughly ten months in a combination of stainless steel tanks and neutral French and American oak. While it offers immediate accessibility and mass appeal as an easy-drinking 'sipper', it maintains enough weight and structure to be enjoyed over a short-term cellaring window of three years.
