Product description
Altesino Brunello di Montalcino originates from Italy, within the Tuscany region and the prestigious Brunello di Montalcino DOCG appellation. Housed in the historic 14th-century Palazzo Altesi, the estate has long been recognized as an innovator in Montalcino, famous for pioneering the single-vineyard concept in the region (cru Montosoli) in 1975. The estate controls approximately 50 hectares of prime vineyards spread across varied microclimates in the northern, eastern, and southern sectors of Montalcino. Altesino’s winemaking philosophy blends respect for traditional Sangiovese purity with modern refinement, utilizing a combination of large Slavonian oak barrels (botti) and French oak to craft a flagship Brunello lauded for its aromatic elegance, structural finesse, and long-term aging potential.
Wine Description
This red wine presents a deep, luminous ruby-garnet appearance in the glass, developing subtle amber reflections near the rim as it ages. It possesses a full-bodied, highly refined, and well-proportioned structure defined by a silky, mouth-coating, and supple texture. The sensory profile is classic, fragrant, and multi-layered, opening with an inviting bouquet of wild red cherries, crushed plums, and ripe raspberries, interwoven with complex secondary notes of dried violets, tobacco leaf, leather, Mediterranean herbs, sweet spices, and crushed stone minerality. On the palate, it delivers an energetic core of vibrant red fruit supported by a fine thread of natural acidity and polished, fine-grained tannins. The finish is long, clean, and persistent, leaving lingering echoes of licorice, dark cocoa, and savory herbs.
Varietal Composition: 100% Sangiovese (locally known as Brunello).
Stylistic Notes: The grapes are hand-harvested from several estate vineyards to create a complete and balanced regional expression. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Per DOCG regulations, the wine ages for a minimum of two years in oak casks—utilizing traditional 50-to-100-hectoliter Slavonian oak botti alongside smaller French oak barrels—followed by at least four months of bottle aging prior to release.
ABV: Typically 14.0% to 14.5%.
Food Pairing
The vibrant natural acidity, firm tannic structure, and complex savory-fruit profile of Altesino Brunello di Montalcino make it an exceptional match for rich, savory Italian and classic global gastronomy.
Fine Meats: Pairs magnificently with Bistecca alla Fiorentina (grilled T-bone steak), roasted rack of lamb with rosemary, pan-seared duck breast, or braised beef short ribs.
Game: Ideal when served alongside wild boar ragù (ragù di cinghiale), venison tenderloin, or roasted pheasant.
Earthy Specialties: Complements mushroom risottos, pasta tossed with fresh black truffles, and hearty Tuscan bean or vegetable stews cooked with herbs.
Aged Cheeses: Matches gracefully with mature, firm cheeses such as Pecorino Toscano, Parmigiano-Reggiano, or 24-month Comté.
