Product description

Amatiteña Barrancas Tequila Blanco is an ultra-traditional, artisanal 100% Blue Weber agave spirit produced in Amatitán, within the Lowlands (Valles) region of Jalisco, Mexico. Crafted at NOM 1477 (Tequila Selecto de Amatitán) under the guidance of Master Distiller Alberto Partida, Amatiteña is dedicated to preserving ancestral tequila-making techniques that predate industrialization. The "Barrancas" release celebrates the unique microclimate and mineral-rich soils of the ravines (barrancas) surrounding Amatitán, delivering an unadulterated, high-proof, and deeply smoky Lowland agave experience.

Spirit Description

Amatiteña Barrancas Blanco is crafted from fully mature, estate-grown agave piñas harvested from the low-lying ravine areas of Amatitán. In stark contrast to modern industrial tequilas, the agaves are cooked in traditional wood-fired brick ovens (hornos) using mesquite and oak wood, imparting a distinct, subtle smoky character. The cooked agaves are crushed entirely using a heavy volcanic stone tahona wheel pulled by a tractor. Fermentation takes place in open-air wooden vats using wild airborne yeasts with agave fibers (bagazo) included in the wash, followed by double distillation in small copper pot stills. Unaged and bottled additive-free, it bridges classic Lowland earthiness with artisanal wood-smoke complexity.

  • Colour: Crystal clear with luminous silver reflections and thick, slow legs in the glass.

  • Aroma: Intensely aromatic, earthy, and rustic. Opens with sweet cooked agave, damp earth, and mesquite wood smoke, followed by green pepper, lime zest, black pepper, and a subtle herbal brine.

  • Palate: Bold, rich, and full-flavored on the entry. Strong upfront notes of sweet roasted agave, soft wood smoke, and olive brine give way to mineral-rich earth, crushed black pepper, and bright citrus peel.

  • Body: Medium-to-full-bodied with a viscous, rich, and mouth-coating texture.

  • Finish: Long, warm, and lingering, trailing off with persistent roasted agave, dry mesquite smoke, cracked pepper, and a clean mineral snap.

  • ABV: Typically bottled at a higher strength (around 42% to 49% ABV / 84 to 98 Proof, depending on the specific batch release).
