Product description
Ardbeg 15 Year Old is an exclusive aged expression from the iconic Ardbeg Distillery, situated on the rugged southern coast of Islay, Scotland (owned by The Glenmorangie Company / Moët Hennessy). Positioned between the distillery's core 10 Year Old and the mature 19 Year Old Traigh Bhan, a 15-year maturation marks an intriguing sweet spot for Ardbeg’s heavily peated spirit. At 15 years, the fierce, medicinal peat smoke begins to mellow and integrate seamlessly with the oak, allowing the distillery's signature fruity, citrus-forward, and coastal notes to step forward with greater complexity and depth.
Spirit Description
Ardbeg 15 Year Old is distilled from heavily peated malted barley (typically around 50–55 ppm) using soft, peaty water sourced from Loch Uigeadail. Distilled in copper pot stills equipped with Ardbeg's distinctive purifier, the process retains lighter, floral, and fruity esters alongside the maritime peat smoke. The liquid matures for 15 full years primarily in select ex-bourbon American oak casks, with batches occasionally incorporating a small percentage of Spanish Oloroso sherry wood to enhance the mouthfeel and dried-fruit undertones.
Colour: Pale shimmering gold with warm straw highlights.
Aroma: Complex, aromatic, and maritime. Opens with soft wood smoke, campfire ash, and iodine, balanced by lemon curd, smoked pineapple, toasted coconut, vanilla bean, and a briny sea-spray breeze.
Palate: Rich, textural, and beautifully balanced on the entry. Initial waves of sweet vanilla cream, salted toffee, and candied lime peel give way to soot, tarry peat smoke, cracked black pepper, roasted coffee beans, and subtle herbal aniseed.
Body: Medium-to-full-bodied with a silky, coating, and oily mouthfeel.
Finish: Long, warming, and coastal, lingering with charred oak, sweet peat embers, dry maritime salt, and a faint kiss of citrus zest.
ABV: Bottled at 48.8 % ABV, non-chill filtered.
