Product description

Ardnamurchan AD Cask Strength is a powerhouse single malt from the remote Ardnamurchan Distillery on the rugged West Highland coast. Known for its extreme transparency and "farm-to-bottle" approach, the distillery utilizes local barley and renewable energy to produce one of Scotland's most distinctive new coastal malts. The Cask Strength Release is a limited, small-batch vatting—typically combining approximately 85-90% peated and 10-15% unpeated spirit—matured predominantly in ex-bourbon barrels (90%) with a small influence of sherry casks (10%). Bottled at its natural strength (typically between 57% and 59% ABV), it offers an unfiltered, high-voltage look at the distillery’s maritime DNA.

Spirit Description

The whisky presents a bright, natural straw-gold color. On the nose, it is intensely coastal and evocative, leading with aromas of salty sea spray, wet seashells, and bonfire ash, followed by lemon zest, honeycomb, and a hint of minty freshness. The palate is rich, oily, and explosive; waves of maritime peat smoke and black pepper spice are balanced by the sweetness of vanilla custard, crisp green apples, and salted toffee. The high ABV carries a distinct "chili-like" warmth that opens up beautifully with a few drops of water. The finish is long and slightly drying, characterized by lingering wood smoke, seaweed salinity, and a faint echo of orange peel.

Food Pairing

The intense salinity and smoke of the Cask Strength Release make it a bold companion for "land and sea" flavors. It pairs magnificently with fresh oysters or seared scallops, where the whisky's brine enhances the sweetness of the shellfish. For a more robust meal, try it with glazed pork belly or smoked venison sausages, as the high proof and peat smoke cut through the fatty richness of the meat. It also stands up well to mature blue cheeses like Roquefort or Stilton. For a sweet contrast, pair it with dark chocolate sea salt truffles, which draw out the hidden notes of cocoa and orchard fruit in the spirit.
