Product description
This structured and 'expressive' red wine originates from Italy, within the Cannonau di Sardegna D.O.C. appellation of the Mediterranean island of Sardinia. Sourced from the prestigious Argiolas estate, founded in 1938 by Antonio Argiolas, the property is universally recognized as the pioneering force that first shifted the island's winemaking focus from bulk quantity to world-class quality. Today, the estate is expertly managed by the third generation of the family: Valentina, Francesca, and Antonio. Operating under a philosophy of strict respect for native Sardinian varieties and site precision, the estate sources this bottling from their 88-acre Costera vineyard, located in the rolling hills of Serdiana in southern Sardinia. Here, the vines are rooted in a pebbly terroir of calcareous clay-loam, where intense Mediterranean sunlight and cooling marine winds naturally limit yields to pack the fruit with genuine island character.
Wine Description
Argiolas Costera Cannonau di Sardegna presents an intense ruby-red appearance with brilliant garnet reflections shimmering at the rim. Its sensory profile is wonderfully warm, classic, and deeply reflective of its landscape, opening with a high-toned, intensely vinous bouquet of wild cherries, very ripe strawberries, and dark plums, beautifully layered with fragrant underlays of new leather, eucalyptus, cracked black pepper, and Mediterranean wild herbs. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied, soft, and juicy, showcasing a sweet-fruited core of black cherries and crushed mountain berries. It is characterized by an outstanding structural balance, maintaining a pleasing natural freshness (pH 3.6) that effortlessly offsets the southern sun's heat. The mouthfeel is sleek and polished, driven by velvety, well-rounded tannins that transition gracefully into a long, satisfying finish accented by lingering notes of sweet vanilla, tobacco leaf, and savory baking spices.
