Product description
Originating from Italy in the Piedmont region, specifically within the Barolo DOCG appellation in Serralunga d'Alba, Azelia Barolo Margheria 2021 represents a legendary, single-vineyard Cru expression of Nebbiolo. Produced by Azienda Agricola Azelia under fifth-generation winemaker Luigi Scavino and his son Lorenzo, the family estate is renowned for its old vine preservation and meticulous organic farming. Sourced from the historic Margheria vineyard, where 60-year-old vines thrive in iron-rich clay and calcareous marl soils at 340 metres elevation, the winemaking philosophy combines traditional craftsmanship with modern precision. Following careful manual harvesting and extended skin contact during fermentation, the wine undergoes long aging in large traditional Austrian and Slavonian oak casks (botti) for 28 months, capturing the site's intense mineral depth, powerful structural frame, and age-worthy elegance.
Wine Description
The wine presents a clear, deep garnet red colour with vibrant orange and ruby highlights along the rim. An intense, deeply complex bouquet opens with classic Serralunga aromas of wild dark cherry, ripe red plum, and dried cranberry, interwoven with sophisticated notes of crushed rose petal, tar, damp earth, licorice, eucalyptus, and iron-like minerality. On the palate, it is full bodied, muscular, and refined, delivering concentrated flavours of dark fruit, blood orange zest, and savory herbs supported by a vibrant, mouthwatering spine of natural acidity. Framed by Margheria's signature firm, fine-grained, and chiseled tannins, it concludes with an exceptionally long, structured finish marked by lingering dark fruit and intense mineral complexity. Composed of 100% Nebbiolo, it combines the formidable power and longevity of Serralunga d'Alba with luminous purity and aromatic grace.
