This vibrant and coastal white wine originates from the Toscana IGT in the Maremma region of Southern Tuscany. Produced by the legendary Castello Banfi, "La Pettegola" (meaning "The Gossip") refers to a small, talkative shorebird found on the Mediterranean coast. The winery's philosophy for this bottling is to capture the "Atlantic" influence of the nearby sea, utilizing the Vermentino grape to create a wine defined by its aromatic intensity and salty freshness.
Wine Description
The Banfi La Pettegola Vermentino presents a brilliant, pale yellow colour. The sensory profile is remarkably expressive, featuring an intense nose of exotic fruits, lemongrass, and yellow peach, layered with sophisticated notes of sage, lemon blossom, and a hint of spice. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and "sleek," showcasing a juicy texture balanced by a vibrant structure and zesty acidity. It is characterized by its crispness and Mediterranean character, leading to a long, persistent finish with a clean mineral edge. This 100% Vermentino was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel (13–15°C) followed by three months of aging on the lees to enhance its volume and aromatic complexity.
