Product description

Fattoria dei Barbi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2020 is a prestige red wine from the Montalcino region of Tuscany, Italy. Fattoria dei Barbi is one of the foundational historic estates of the appellation, with the Colombini family's winemaking roots in the area stretching back to 1352. Produced only in exceptional vintage years, the Riserva label is crafted from a rigorous selection of the estate's finest barrels. The winery's philosophy bridges centuries of tradition with modern precision, prioritizing structural power, extreme elegance, and unparalleled aging capability.

Wine Description

In the glass, this vintage exhibits a brilliant and deep ruby red color. The nose is intricate and multi-layered, bursting with an aromatic bouquet of strawberry, sweet cherry, and dark forest berries, interwoven with nuances of eucalyptus, orange peel, undergrowth, sweet tobacco, and a hint of smoky minerality. On the palate, the wine is warm, ample, and full-bodied. Stylistically, it stands as an austere yet sensual masterpiece with a tightly woven, sinewy tannin structure perfectly balanced by a vibrant, focused acidity. It concludes with a remarkably persistent, succulent finish carrying notes of balsamic, licorice, and exotic baking spices.

  • Varietal Composition: 100% Sangiovese, harvested from south-east facing vines rooted in marl soils.

  • Aging Process: Aged for a mandatory five years before commercial release, spending at least three years in oak casks followed by a minimum of six months resting in the bottle.

  • Optimal Drinking Window: Blessed with monumental longevity, this wine has an estimated cellaring potential of 20 to 80 years. Critics estimate its ideal drinking plateau will sit comfortably between 2029 and 2045.
