Cinder & Smoke Oloroso Cask Bourbon is a limited-edition craft spirit produced in the United States, specifically in Graham, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. It is produced by The Bard Distillery, which was founded in 2019 by Thomas and Kim Bard. Thomas Bard is the 4th-great-grandson of one of the two brothers who founded Bardstown, KY, the "Bourbon Capital of the World". The distillery is uniquely housed in a restored 1920s Art Deco school building, where the whiskey matures in former classrooms with original cinder block walls and no climate control.
Spirit Description
This expression is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon that has been hand-blended in very small batches and finished in Spanish Oloroso Sherry Casks.
Maturation: While the exact age of the Oloroso finish varies by batch, the series typically utilizes well-aged sourced barrels that are then finished at the distillery to integrate the dark fruit notes of the sherry.
Appearance: Deep amber with reddish mahogany reflections.
Nose: A complex and evocative bouquet featuring toffee, toasting marshmallows, and dried fruits (raisins and dark cherries), balanced by a hint of soft smoke and toasted oak.
Palate: Rich and layered, offering a "bold, smoke-influenced" profile where sherry-soaked fruit and caramel meet cocoa and warming baking spices.
Finish: Long and warming, characterized by a distinct "smoky, drying finish" with lingering notes of dark chocolate and oak.
Technical Details: Typically bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV) or 101 proof (50.5% ABV).
