Product description

The 2016 Beringer 8th Maker Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a red wine crafted to honor Mark Beringer, the winery's eighth winemaker. This limited-production Cabernet Sauvignon exemplifies the rich heritage and commitment to quality that Beringer Vineyards is renowned for.

Vineyard and Production

Sourced primarily from the Home Ranch Vineyard in St. Helena (85%) and the Steinhauer Ranch on Howell Mountain (15%), the grapes benefit from diverse terroirs. The 2016 vintage experienced a balanced growing season, allowing for optimal ripening. Hand-harvested fruit underwent meticulous sorting, followed by extended maceration for 21 days at 85ºF. Fermentation and aging occurred in 500-liter French oak puncheons and barrels, with the wine maturing for 24 months in 100% French oak (80% new).

Tasting Notes

  • Appearance: Deep garnet-purple hue.

  • Aroma: Exuberant scents of warm cassis and blackberry pie, complemented by subtle hints of dried Provence herbs, fertile loam, coffee, yeast extract, olives, and crushed rocks.

  • Palate: Full-bodied and plush, featuring flavors of dark berries, blackberries, and hot stones. The palate is marked by fine-grained tannins, seamless freshness, and a lingering minty lift on the finish.

Critical Acclaim

  • James Suckling: 99 points. Described as a dark and seductive Cabernet with stunning forest berries, enormous concentration, and freshness.

  • Jeb Dunnuck: 97 points. Noted for its massive, full-bodied profile, boasting classic crème de cassis fruit, chocolate, espresso, and tobacco notes.

  • Wine Advocate: 95+ points. Praised for its generous fruit, plush-yet-firm tannins, and seamless freshness.

Serving and Pairing

To fully appreciate its complexity, decant the wine for at least an hour before serving at a temperature of 16-18°C (61-64°F). This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs exceptionally well with hearty dishes such as grilled ribeye steak, braised short ribs, or aged cheddar cheese. Its robust structure and depth also make it a suitable companion for rich stews and roasted game meats.
