Product description

Beringer Luminus Chardonnay originates from the United States, within California’s distinguished Napa Valley AVA, specifically sourced from the cool-climate Oak Knoll District sub-appellation. Introduced as a focused exploration of single-terroir Chardonnay, "Luminus"—derived from the Latin for "light"—was created to showcase a brighter, more linear, and mineral-driven counterpart to Beringer’s classic, opulent Private Reserve style. Situated in the southern portion of Napa Valley, the Big Ranch Vineyard in Oak Knoll benefits from cool ocean breezes and morning fog off San Pablo Bay. Operating under the winemaking leadership of Ryan Rech, the estate’s philosophy for Luminus centers on preserving natural acidity, highlighting crisp orchard fruit, and utilizing seasoned oak to craft an elegant, fresh, and modern expression of Napa Valley Chardonnay.

Wine Description

This white wine presents a pale, bright straw-gold appearance in the glass with shimmering green reflections. It possesses a medium-bodied, sleek, and lively structure defined by a crisp, silky, and clean texture. The sensory profile is energetic, aromatic, and refined, opening with an inviting bouquet of green apples, crisp Anjou pears, lemon zest, and white peach, interwoven with delicate floral notes of white jasmine, wet stone minerality, and subtle toasted almond. On the palate, it delivers a focused, mouthwatering core of citrus oil and stone fruit, balanced by a bright, vibrant acidity that drives the wine into a crisp, refreshing finish touched by light oak spice and a clean mineral trail.

  • Varietal Composition: 100% Chardonnay.

  • Stylistic Notes: Hand-harvested in the cool early morning, the whole clusters are gently pressed before undergoing fermentation. To balance freshness with textural complexity, approximately 80% to 90% of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation. It is aged for 9 to 10 months in French oak barrels, with a low proportion of new oak (typically 20% to 25%), accompanied by periodic lees stirring (bâtonnage) to build subtle mid-palate weight without masking its crisp acidity.

  • ABV: 14.1% to 14.3%.
